Help! My Baby Won’t Stop Crying

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

You’ve taken your baby to the doctor, and a diagnosis of ‘colicky’ was given. Here’s a few suggestions that may help you soothe your crying baby, and give you some rest, peace and quiet that you yearn for.

Congratulations on your new arrival! After all the waiting and participation, your baby is finally here. But wait, things aren’t as you dreamed. Your new bundle of joy isn’t so joyful. In fact, she is the complete opposite – crying and fussing constantly.

The first thing you must know, is this does not mean you’re a bad parent. Crying is a way for babies to try and communicate. It’s the only form of communication they have. If you haven’t already, soon you will learn all of your baby’s different cries, to tell you if she’s hungry, tired, needs changing, or simply wants to be held and cuddled.

If your baby has been crying over a long period of time, then there is a possibility that your baby may be colicky. Nearly ½ of all newborns are colicky within the first two months of life. Doctors really don’t know what causes it; as they do not always and in fact, most of the time, do not exhibit the signs of actually being in physical pain. Of course, you should always rule out other possible reasons for crying, with the baby’s pediatrician.

Crying usually peaks at six weeks and lasts until about three months. Don’t worry about spoiling a newborn baby. Most of the experts will tell you it is impossible to do so. When you hold and talk to your crying baby, you are building up their trust in you, and giving them the reassurance and love they need.

Your baby may show some signs of a hurting tummy, by pulling their legs up toward their body, or lying in a curled position. You can try and help control the amount of gas they accumulate by making sure they’re in an upright position while feeding, burping them often, and not laying them down for at least thirty to forty-five minutes after they eat.

Pacifiers are good for a crying baby as well. The sucking motion actually helps soothe them deep within the nervous system.

Some suggestions to help relieve your baby of gas pains, hence relieving your nerves as well; you can try these actions below:

· A warm bath followed by a massage — especially a light pressure rub on the tummy.

· Holding them in the football hold, which is laying your baby tummy down on your arm, resting their chin in your hand, with their legs on each side of your arm – pat her back lightly.

· Play classical music, shushing sounds, white noise (ceiling fan, vacuum, etc…), or natural sounds. This is especially beneficial in the first three months of life.

· Make sure she doesn’t get air in her bottle. You can help eliminate air, by shaking the bottle, bending and squeezing it down, to release trapped air.

· Laying the baby down on her tummy over your knees and lightly bouncing her.

Sleep is very important for both emotional and physical health. When trying to get a crying baby to sleep, make sure it’s dark and quiet, (if there is any background noise, it should only be the sounds listed previously). Swaddle them – this is wrapping them snug and secure in a blanket, giving them the feel of the womb. Babies also like the feel of skin-on-skin contact. Keep your baby on a regular schedule, as much as you are able.

Make sure you rest when baby rests. After allFree Reprint Articles, calm parents equal a calm baby.

Finding The Right Baby Room Wallpaper

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

It is usually an enjoyable experience to organize and prepare a nursery for your beloved baby. As there is an abundant choice available everywhere for the adorable nursery decors, it may be better to choose the actual baby-room wallpaper before you start getting all the other items for the nursery.

The moment you realize you are pregnant is an extremely exciting time. Lots of people just run out the very second they learn the news to tell all their friends and relatives about this exciting event. Others tend to rush to the nearest store, straight to the home improvement department and try to get the best possible baby room supplies so that they can have it ready for the new arrival. This includes baby room wallpaper.

It is usually an enjoyable experience to organize and prepare a nursery for your beloved baby. As there is an abundant choice available everywhere for the adorable nursery decors, it may be better to choose the actual baby-room wallpaper before you start getting all the other items for the nursery.

The main reason for suggesting doing the walls first is because the design of the entire baby-room is based on that. Actually the walls and the floor are the most important and the hardest to choose. After that all the rest comes into place in a kind of easy and natural way.

Consider taking your time for those decisions. The choice of baby-room decorations seems to be virtually endless and this makes it even harder. Not to mention that apart from getting something suitable for your baby you also have to like it yourself. Keep in mind that your baby will also have its own taste, being a separate individual and it already becomes a kind of impossible task.

My sister designed her daughters nursery around an ocean theme and now only 18 months after that she has to redecorate. Unfortunately my niece did not like the ocean and fish thing and she seems to be really fond of all types of flowers and little princesses instead. However, this seems to be a change coming too soon for me.

No matter what ideas you have for the nursery do not start painting it without spending some more time thinking about what will follow. Have in mind that your child will have its own taste and that this taste will be changing through the years. The idea is to do something timeless, more classic rather than trendy, if you dont want to renovate the room every two years.

When we got our new house and moved in, we chose to leave the walls as they were in our daughters nursery. It was looking very nice with its pinewood paneling and was making quite a cozy place for our daughter to stay. So normally I would never think of getting a baby wallpaper, put in fact Im pretty much tempted to do that by the enormous selection of styles and colors that are offered.

We quite like the idea of a design that can grow along with our daughter, but in the same time the room really needs a touch of character that we would like to add. As it is now it is closest to whats being qualified as a study. The light very girly curtains that we chose and the rug with its pastel colors opened the room significantly. HoweverScience Articles, we think a little baby-room wallpaper can make it even better and give it the complete look of the nursery that we wanted to have.

Classic Christmas Songs

Monday, January 29th, 2007

Christmas songs are as assorted and diverse as anything I can think of. But what exactly do I mean by that statement? Well just think about the incredible variety of Christmas songs that have been produced throughout the years and I think you’ll agree. If you grew up in snowy regions you may recall going for sleigh rides or caroling around a snow-covered tree.

Of course, roasting chestnuts on an open fire is something you may have not only done, but also listened to Bing Crosby saying about. And of course hearing sleigh bells in the snow and dreaming of a white Christmas are ageless lyrics that will endure forever.

If you had any number of Christmases from 1969 through the early seventies, the early eighties, the early nineties, or the early oughtsthat is, through the Vietnam, Granada, Gulf War, and current wars you may think of how much meaning the song I’ll be home for Christmas has. And who can forget all of those wonderful Perry Como and Bing Crosby Christmas specials that were filled with beautiful Christmas songs.

And, of course, many of us will fondly recall at least an earful of kids songs, chattered by The Chipmunks, lead vocalist Alvin notwithstanding; All I Want for Christmas (is My Two Front Teeth); and the racy I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.

But Christmas songs like so many other things continue to evolve. From the beautiful and stirring classics like O Holy Night (which is my personal favorite) and Little Drummer Boy, sung by cute little kids in Christmas pageants or pious choirs once a year without fail and simple ditties about food and presents and figgy pudding and nog, Christmas songs have gone into penetrating, challenging, bonding, and spiritually elevating realms. Just hearing the sounds can bring back

a flood of wonderful memories.

John Lennon, I think, started the trend of a Christmas song with a higher consciousnesswith And so this is Christmas, and what have you done? and And so this is Christmas (war is over), for weak and for strong (if you want it), the rich and the poor ones, the road is so long. Imagine (or remember) how those frolicky, campy, or solemn and religious Christmas songs now had the words war and fight directly stated rather than implied? This just goes to show you that even Christmas songs can contain political statements just as they contain statements of peace and love.

And then came the unusual duo or unlikely star remake trends for Christmas songs, which were, really, equally moving: Bing Crosby joined David Bowie to remake The Little Drummer Boy. Which is one of my all-time favorite songs, by the way. And how about the king, Elvis Presley belting out “Blue Christmas”, how could you not love that?

And for a few years we have strayed from lyrics, per se, and have indulged in the saintly sounds of chanting Monks. I love these original options, as much as I still get chills when I hear original or other versions of those songs that had such limited meaning when I was kid doing solos for the elementary school parents. Everyone is different of courseArticle Submission, and our tastes in Christmas songs is no exception. But for my money I’ll take the old classics because as I see it these are not only beautiful Christmas songs but some of the sweetest sounds you’ll ever hear.

For many women that are expecting babies, they can feel a little on attractive and self-conscious to say the least. Maternity clothes do not have to be huge. They do not have to be frumpy and they do not have to scream, Pregnant lady coming!

Like other fashion pieces, maternity clothes are created to complement and accentuate our best features while masking those that are deemed less desirable.

Colors of all sorts are all the rage at the moment so this really allows the woman and to express her personality. For many years maternity clothes were limited in color and design.
